MDA

Ok here is the solution to connect a BT 338 Bluetooth GPS receiver (might work with others as well) with the MDA compact using Tom Tom navigational software. (Für eine Anleitung in Deutsch hier klicken.)

Hardware:

MDA Compact (ROM: 1.13.01 GER, ExtROM: 1.13.129 GER)

Navilock BT 338

Software:

TomTom Navigator 5 (Update 5.21)

Bluetooth Manager 1.1.0.0 Download here (http://www.bluetooth.jazztel.es/)

PocketNav 2.74 Download here (http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html)

To-Do-List (Please read everything before starting):

I am not quite sure if doing anything in a different order affects the process, but I don´t think so, because I mixed up the whole thing trying (wasting) 2 days fixing the problem. The Problem occurs, because the MDA Compact doesn´t have the "Bluetooth Connection wizard" which should be available under Windows Pocket PC 2003. So you can´t assign the right Serial Com Port to the BT 338. So we need to get the above mentioned "Bluetooth Manager" which was originally designed for the MDA II. If you use it, you will find out that it pops up in the backround when you try to connect a new bluetooth device, but you can´t use it, because the MDA won´t let you use anything besides it´s own Connection Program. Therefore we have to use "PocketNav" a real lifesaving tool, which has to be started prior to the whole connection process. It will appear in the upper right corner with a "lightning sign". When you try to connect the BT 338 to the MDA the Bluetooth manager will come up without any chance of accessing it as mentioned above. So we use the PocketNav to access it. We check the "Serial Port" box and make sure it is set to COM 6 (That´s the one TomTom is looking for). Then all we have to do is open Tom Tom, go to the configuration board and hurray will find the BT 338. Everything is fine and the world will continue to rotate ;-) If anyone has a further question please write it down or send me an email.

I had to write it down, because any forum topic that handles the question, never gets an appropriate awnser ( and I hate people who post on a question things like: "Why don´t you use another XYZ-gadget"...... (well if I would I, I would not waste my time posting my proplem, would I), or people telling me "Well I use it, and mine works perfect and btw I have also a great car with this and that as gadget and let´s talk about it from now on......." (Great, now I do know that you 1. Don´t care about my problem, 2. Doesn´t have any clue and 3. Too much time, to write down such non-informational garbage)!!! Hope you can save sam time with this help here ;-)
